Project Overview
This would be the final blog relating to the Industry Practice Project , this blog will consist of my final overview of the entire module and everything that has happened whilst working on Industry Practice.
Opinions on my Work
Overall with the tasks I was given by our director Katie who gave me the tasks of working on all the UI and start up screen that would be mostly all used during the final run of the games creation minus some smaller scrapped pieces. I feel like with the UI designs I ended up finalising and created , I'm quite proud of all the final products that were made for the game and how they were all staying towards the theme and art direction I was given by my director . Alongside working on the UI , I also assisted my team in working towards the coding such as making the code for the textboxes have specific character text and helping design the start up screen and have the screen be linking up not overlapping which any of the other functions which was such a new learning experience due to never working with renpy and code in general.
What went well with the Project
In general , the entire project was something that I was able to enjoy during the long time span that we have had for the project such as just being able to even make a visual novel from the very stop which was something I wouldn't think I be able to do with my skill set however proven now it was something I was able to do which I'm so proud at myself for being able to work with a group and having a function game becoming the final end goal and I'm so proud of my entire team of everything being able to band together even with the few rough patches we had with people in our group .
I loved working inside of renpy and slowly figuring out what different settings do and how the code is able to link to certain areas to make something happen such as just being able to move the sprites around the screen and linking textboxes to be with certain characters which I'm so proud how these sections that I was tasked to do turned out for the ending goal.
What could've been improved
Whilst overall I felt like the entire project was such a new learning experience with the final project being creating a visual novel game centred around mental health , I loved the idea of starting from the ground up in a studio setting with the groups within our class however from my groups experience I felt like there was only certain people in our group who would pull 100% of the weight to try and get the project done to the original standard that we were going for whilst the other half did not want to involve themselves within the process or when they would be given tasks to do it would take them over the given deadline that was set from our director by a long time frame cause the production of the game to be slower and take longer than in my opinion would have wanted either it be people in our group only communicating when practically demanded too or not give us information until weeks later still with given tasks causing the progress to fall back on us.
Whilst the whole creating the game from the ground up was a process I enjoyed working with the group setting made the work more irritating to work with when your part is finished and u have to fall back.
Problems we Faced
With our group , we had a common issue which was the other half of our groups cooperation which caused us to struggle a lot more to to lack of communication between the other members as it seems that only myself , Katie and Jess were the only ones working on the game and project as a whole however I'm proud of what we still managed to complete even with the major setbacks.
