With the Start of our Building Alliance Project , We were given a selection of 3 prompts to decide and work with so after talking with my group we worked out on working on the prompt that relates to the impact of microplastics on the human food chain
Microplastics in relation to Fish
An area that I started my research into when looking into microplastics and its everlasting effects on different life out on our lands , I started off with marine life such as fish or crustaceans as there habitats are seen as a common ground for marine plastic pollution and due to how plastic would then break down into microplastics over the years of the plastic eventually breaking down leaving small unnoticeable particles of plastic inside of the ocean for unsuspecting fish to swim across.
Looking into a study based on looking at different marine life that was affected by microplastics , it showcased how after different types of fish's or crustaceans were affected by the microplastics due to the smaller particles can create different chemical or physical toxicity's including how the population growth rate changes or how the creatures would have increased change in behaviours however it can affect the marine life's ways of defence as it lowers the defence responses that the marine life are usually built for which I'm able to use as information for our game idea as due to the changes from the microplastics the enemies in our game are seen as more hostile towards our main character and due to the changes to the population of the wildlife we can relate with how they would one be a few select enemies of that same type of animal due to the decrease in population and how the animals would not be able to survive with less of them.
Microplastics in relation to Human Body
For our game idea , we talked about having a main character who relates to doing research on microplastics and returning on a mission site for example in our game relating to the abandoned City or Zoo however due to the effects the microplastics that it would have caused for the local wildlife , I decided to research on how microplastics would affect the human body as a way to add change to our main character depending on what style of route you would want to do over the playthrough and how your actions change the perspective on the game.
When looking at how microplastics are able to enter the human body there are a few different methods on how they are able to enter our body due there small size . One way that I wanted to look into the most was how microplastics can end up in our body due to eating different contaminated food such as salt , beer or seafood and in certain types of environments animals are able to get infected with these microplastics and absorb them into their bodies which can cause the meat and actual food source inside the body to become infected and I wanted to research how due to how the microplastics act in our game setting , could we relate the characters actions on survival of having to either utilise his rations or take a gamble of using the food around him and causing side effects on his body. Other methods of the way microplastics would enter the human body would be through the skin or from breathing in fumes from different materials.
T t These two separate screenshots were taken from one of my first blogs during the time span of this project however during the start of the project I never expanded on the research that I was looking in much depth so I spent more time research these two game franchises to try and explain and link into more depth how these games are referenced when it came to looking into the designs of our assets.
Elden Ring :
In the screenshot , its explained how Elden Ring and its use of body horror is able to link towards our game as during the initial phases of trying to pick out different animals to showcase the different ways microplastics would be able to infect different species and morph the animals bodies to create these corrupted versions of themselves due to the time period the game would be set in , they would no longer look like their normal counterparts and have parts of their bodies twisted in ways that shouldn't be physically possible for the creature to work however due to the infections it would . A reference I was instantly inspired by was the bottom left image on the Elden Ring section as the creature looks worn down and exhausted and has these twisted tendrils protruding in and out of the creatures body and using ominous lighting and showcasing the mouths insides with the teeth on show.
Resident Evil :
When it came to looking into the Resident Evil franchise , I looked into how once an enemies was infected in that same the body of that enemy would be morphed drastically and have its features twisted and broken down into horrifying ways to create a sense of terror and fear for our player as when looking at the scale of the Resident Evil enemies compared to the main characters in each of the games there are drastic height differences between the two which is able to create that good sense of fear with the atmosphere of a dark area as due to the size it may not look like it would be able to jumpscare the player however it would still manage to.
Target Audience :
h Talking about how we wanted our game to look like , we would have to consider our target audience as well so we can understand what pieces of content we would be allowed to have in our game and what content we wont allow in our game.
Genre - Horror after considering our feedback from our survey we stayed along the gore and horror route and how we wanted our enemies to be considered once they became infected it made sense to stick to the horror route.
Rating - From the Survey we took to see what rating we would want from our game and I also researched into the PEGI rating and after considering the gore and blood situation in our Game we considered having the game be PEGI 18
Style - First Person exploration as we looked into how we wanted the game to function since we considered having small collectables around the map and how the main character would have to fight these creatures to gain samples to test for a cure.
