Real Worlds - Environment & Street Furniture Sketch's & Colourways
Environment Sketch's & Room Designs
With the support of my research giving me a base idea of what designs I wanted to go forward with , I started designing some small interior sketch's to warm up to the idea of the lab environment design I was going towards.
I started these sketches as if they were planned renders as since I was working along the 3D pathway for the environment section , it supported my sketch's as it allowed me to think more visually as if each piece of the sketch was a 3D assets being placed down for a render which is why each of this set of 5 sketch's are set down as interior shots.
Questions & Feedback on sketch's
Showing this beginning set of sketch's to some people outside of our course giving them the basic rundown of what this environments supposed to be about , the main piece of feedback I was given was relating to the bottom 5th sketch as without context , its not clear what the patches are across the floors of the buildings as some people could figure out they are supposed to tunnels without any noticeable way to prove that these are tunnels created by Termis could they be identified as just puddles of liquid instead.
Taking this feedback into consideration, I started by designing level layouts to showcase the underneath tunnels of the map layout designing a small mini map and then started my next set of 5 sketches which was the layout of the model and how I wanted each room to initially be designing by showcasing 3 full building designs from an outside perspective and 2 smaller room sketch's of the rooms in the lab that I wanted to showcase my different furniture.
Environment Level Layouts
After these initial sketches of the building , I took inspiration from looking at mini maps and decided to help myself extra by giving myself a layout design to work from when designing the 3D model as I can go into my top view and use this view as a way to test the lengths and widths of all of the rooms to make sure nothing in this final environment is crowded. Taking into consideration of my feedback of my previous sketch's, I lowered the opacity on a newer layer and created tunnels to showcase the way that the Termis is able to traverse around the environment with the tunnel its created by itself to confuse the Plague Buriers with the multiple routes the Termis is able to take around the map.
Street Furniture Sketch's
After finalising these sketch's surround the environment , I designed different sets of street furniture that I want to place inside my final environments model.
Capsule
Starting off with the Capsule that would be used to create the different experiments during the storyline of my setting , I started creating more solid designs that showcased something being developed as you would playthrough the game and explore the map which lead to the last two being made as if they had managed to fully evolve and escape leaving the player to decide to believe if the creature was found and stayed for testing or killed on sight.
Feedback from these was whilst 5 and 4 were the more favoured designs , I was given the suggestion of instead of hanging but use them all scattered around a room due to the weight being unable to be supported anymore and showing the damage that is left behind once these experiments have finished evolving.
Metal Door
The second set of sketch's are relating to how I designed a security door design to separate the different rooms as due to this environment and how the situations are with the experiments , I created a metal door that would act as a lockdown system in case any of the creatures tried to free themselves.
When it came down to feedback relating to the metal door , I was given the options of whilst the top left door seems the most compact, I need to consider practicality due to how would the metal gate open and close which was a piece of feedback I would take during the modelling phase by including a guide rail and small rollers to allow the door to be functional
Electrical Breaker
With these electrical breakers , it started by having a more compact design being the main focus however whilst designing I figured out that again with practicality I need to showcase where the wires of the breaker would lead to or else they would not be practical.
A piece of feedback that was given to me after designing and modelling the initial models , I was given the reasoning of showcasing the interior of the electrical breaker and how it works whilst not shown in these initial sketch's its primarily shown in the colourways and finalised model.
Additional Feedback given
Some additional feedback delivered late where I asked if they also agree that the one I started to develop was the ones worth developing or if I needed to change my ideas before moving along to the model phase of this project.
Street Furniture Colourways
Collection of my colourway tests which were used before the texturing phase of creating these models to test what colours I plan to use for the street furniture whilst mainly sticking to a more dull colour palette to stay hidden and keep whatever is behind these doors a secret between the scientists.
